The Adelphi University volleyball team opened the 2002 season on the road at the Haverford Invitational on August 31-September 1. The Panthers finished fifth overall with a 4-1 record.
Adelphi opened with a 3-0 (32-30, 30-19, 30-28) win over Rowan. Senior Mary Krines led the team with 12 kills and nine digs, just missing the double-double. Senior Amber Butler recorded 11 digs.
Host Haverford University bested Adelphi, 3-1 (30-13, 30-24, 30-23, 30-13) in the second match. This was Adelphi's only loss of the two-day tournament.
In the third match, Krines posted her first double-double of the season with 16 kills and 12 digs, along with a career-high five block assists as the Panthers edged Brockport, 3-2 (30-27, 30-19, 18-30, 24-30, 15-4). Freshman Jessica Haynes added 12 kills.
In the fourth match, Adelphi swept Glenville State, 3-0 (30-24, 30-21, 30-26). Haynes led the team with 12 kills.
Krines picked up her second double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs in Adelphi's 3-1 (30-22, 35-33, 24-30, 30-17) win over Kean in the final match. Senior transfer Bernadette Mearini picked up her first double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 13 digs. Senior Jenna Sweeney notched 13 kills.
