Adelphi Men's Soccer Upsets Seton Hall, 5-1

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Men's soccer team won its second game of the season against Seton Hall, in a 5-1 upset, Wednesday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve their record to 2-6. The Jaspers fall to 4-3-1 on the season.

The Panthers took an early lead when senior Nick Nowakowski (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored in the 7:07 mark into the game. Approximately 20 minutes later junior Gary Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) scored on an unassisted drive at the 28:52 mark. This goal put the Panthers ahead, 2-0 into the half.

In the second half Seton Hall got on the board with a goal by Phil Swenda (Downingtown, P.A.) in the 54:53 mark. The Panthers scored less then two minutes later on a penalty kick by sophomore Jorrell Best (Brooklyn, N.Y.). This goal was crucial giving Adelphi a 3-1 lead. Adelphi scored its fourth goal of the game when Sullivan scored at the 60:48 mark on a drive from the left side. This was Sullivan's second goal of the game. The Panthers final goal came at the 71:35 mark when Marlon McEachnie (Trinidad, West Indies) scored to give Adelphi the 5-1 win.

Senior Igor Yatsenko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had five saves for Adelphi. Boris Pardo had two saves for the Pirates.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 28, 2002 at home against Hartwick. Game time is slated for 12:00 noon.
