Freshman Jessica Haynes collected nine kills along with eight service aces to lead Adelphi to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-18) win over Dominican College, Wednesday night at Woodruff Hall. Freshman Alexandra Sedlik also registered eight service aces to join Sedlik in setting a new Adelphi record for service aces in a match.
Adelphi dominated the contest, breezing through the first two games in just under 40 minutes. The Lady Chargers came out strong in game three, but the Panthers would tie the game at 15-15. Adelphi finished on a 15-3 run to take the game, 30-18, for the win.
The previous Adelphi record of seven service aces in a match was held by Sue Serowik, set October 6, 1997. The Panthers notched a total of 20 service aces in the contest. The Adelphi record still stand at 25 in a match, set October 16, 1993.
Adelphi improves to 10-6 overall. Dominican drops to 1-6.
The Panthers travel to Southern Connecticut State tomorrow for a 7:00 p.m. match.
