The Adelphi University volleyball team defeated Bridgeport, 3-2, in a conference match-up, Wednesday night at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers 7-3 record marks its best start to a season in school history.
Senior Mary Krines led the team with 17 kills, along with eight digs and four service aces. Senior Bernadette Mearini picked up 12 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season. Sophomore Sharon Ribera led all Panthers with 12 digs on the match. Senior Jenna Sweeney notched 11 digs while collecting four solo blocks and three block assists.Senior Brianne MacArthur had 49 assists and eight digs.
Adelphi took game one, 30-26. Bridgeport rallied back to take game two (30-28) and game three (30-23). In game four, both teams battled back and forth when the Panthers surged going on a 6-1 run to win the game, 30-26. Adelphi opened game five on an 8-2 run and took the match, 15-5.
With the win, Adelphi is 1-0 in the NYCAC, while Bridgeport drops to 0-1 in the conference.
Next up, the Panthers travel to the St. Rose College Tournament this weekend, September 20-21. They return home to host Pace University on Monday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m.
