Men's Basketball Tops Concordia, 97-70

Bronxville, NY - Junior Juma Allen notched a career-high 25 points and senior Wayne Nelson added 23 points to lead the Adelphi University men's basketball team to a 97-70 win over Concordia College this Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NYCAC.

Junior Thomas McCormack registered 11 points along with a game-high six assists.

Adelphi jumped out to an early start only to see the Concordia close to within six points, 42-36, at the end of the first half. Senior Sherman Whittenburg led the Panthers scoring all of his 11 points in the first half, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Clippers came out strong in the second half, going on a 10-4 run to close to within three points with 17:06 remaining in the contest. The Panthers answered with a 19-2 run led by Nelson who had 13 points in the second half. Concordia was not able to respond as Adelphi stretched its lead to 29 points, 89-60, with less than five minutes remaining.

In a very physical contest, both teams combined for 69 fouls and 30 turnovers. On the game, Adelphi shot 47.5 percent from the field to Concordia's 41.9 percent

Concordia was led by Leon Martinez with 19 points, while Brian Antonelli had 11 points.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, hosting NYIT at Woodruff Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
