Women's Soccer Defeats Mercy, 9-1

Garden City, N.Y.- The Adelphi University women's soccer team defeated their conference rivals Mercy, 9-1, this afternoon at Stiles Field. Five different Adelphi players scored in today's match-up. The Panthers improve to 12-1-2 overall, while the Lady Flyers fall to 1-10.

The Panthers picked up their first goal a minute and half into the game. Josephine Coiro scored on an assist from Marissa Cotilletta. Adelphi's second goal also came from Coiro on a pass from Domonique Riccardo five minutes into the contest. Luciana Pace scored the next two goals for the Panthers in the 9th and 12th minute of the game. In the 13th minute of the game Coiro picked up the hat trick on an assist from Marissa Cotilletta. The rapid scoring by Adelphi continued as Jaime Parrella scored in the 16th minute of the competition on an assist from Jennifer Garone. In the 30th minute, Mary Cannata picked up an unassisted goal on a drive down the field. Freshman Jessica Marra contributed the final two goals for Adelphi in the 36th and 43rd minute into the game giving the Panthers a 9-0 lead.

In the second half Mercy got on the board in the 74th minute on an unassisted goal by Michelle Bernal.

The Panthers out-shot the Lady Flyers 31-8 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. With the win the Adelphi women's soccer team extends their home win streak to 20.

Adelphi returns to action Wednesday, October 30 at 3pm in a conference match against Queens College.
