Women's Soccer Tops Southern New Hampshire, 3-2

Garden City, N.Y. - Garden City, N.Y.- The No. 12 Adelphi University women's soccer team saw their scoring drought end as sophomore forward Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y.)picked up the hat trick in the Panthers non-conference victory over Southern New Hampshire University, Wednesday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 11-1-2 overall, while the Penmen fall to 6-9-1.

SNHU opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute of play by Lindsay Parks (Littleton, MA). Coiro tied the game at, 1-1, in the 24th minute on a penalty kick, a score that would remain unchanged throughout the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, junior Marissa Cotilletta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) chipped the ball to Coiro who scored on a breakaway in the 55th minute to give Adelphi its first lead of the contest. The Penmen rallied back and four minutes later, Denise Nicoletta (Westford, Mass.) slid the ball past Adelphi's Andrea Fasano (Syosset, N.Y.), tying the game at 2-2.

Coiro's third goal in the 66th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Panthers held on for the victory.

On the game, Adelphi outshot SNHU, 20-17, and held a 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Fasanso had 10 stops for Adelphi while Anastasia Carson (Wylie, TX) picked up eight saves.

With the win, Adelphi extends its home win streak to 19. The last Panther loss at Stiles Field was a 2-3 overtime loss to SNHU on September 22, 2000.

Adelphi returns to conference action, hosting Mercy College on Saturday, October 26, at 2 p.m.
