Senior Haruto Imamura (Arlington, Va.) scored two goals in the Adelphi men's soccer team's 4-0 shutout over Howard University in a Saturday afternoon conference matchup at Stiles Field. The Panthers extend their win streak to two, improving to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC). The Bison drop to 2-8 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
Sophomore Sigurd Riksfjord (Trondheim, Norway) put Adelphi on the scoreboard midway through the first half on a cross by sophomore Jorrell Best (Brooklyn, N.Y.) Imamura picked up his first collegiate goal on a tap from three yards out in the 26th minute to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Junior defender Gary Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) closed out the first half, scoring on a pass from freshman Padraig Drew (Dublin, Ireland) in the 43rd minute of play.
Imamura collected an insurance goal late in the second half to give Adelphi its second win in as many games.
Adelphi outshot Howard, 23-11, and had nine corner kicks to their six.
Senior goalkeeper Igor Yatsenko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched his third shutout of the season with five stops. Howard's Jason Williams (Warrick, Bermuda) had eight saves.
Adelphi embarks on a seven game road trip, beginning with a non-conference match-up against Fairfield on Wednesday, October 16. Howard will face conference rival Florida International next Sunday.
