Jose Velasquez enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Adelphi University cross country and track & field teams, after four seasons as a student-athlete in both cross country and track and field, and first year as a graduate assistant for Equipment Room Manager Eugene Marquardt.
Velasquez was an NE10 All-Conference Third Team selection in his sophomore season in 2015, where he ran in all six meets for the Brown and Gold.
That year, he finished sixth at the Roadrunner Invitational with a 5k time of 16:44.5, placed 15th after completing the NE10 Championship course in 25:55.3 and clocked in at 32:24.3 for 24th place on the 10k course at the NCAA East Region Championships.
A native of Old Westbury, N.Y., Velasquez earned a bachelor's degree in physics.
