Senior forward Josephine Coiro scored both goals for Adelphi University as the women's soccer team topped Lock Haven, 2-0. The Panthers have won their third straight, improving to 3-1 on the season. The Bald Eagles drop to 1-4.
Going into today's game, Coiro was already the all-time leading scorer in Adelphi history with 136 points and was tied for career goals with Kimberly Campbell (1998-2001) with 59. Her two goals scored today now makes her the all-time leader in goals with 61.
Coiro notched both goals in the opening half with the first coming just 11 minutes into play on a cross from junior Shannon McEntee. Her second goal came at 22:30 into the game as she beat the Lock Haven goalie with a shot to the corner. Sophomore Catherine Wyndham assisted on the play.
In a very physical contest which saw a combined 22 fouls and four yellow cards, the Panthers outshot the Bald Eagles, 10-6.
Freshman goalie Christine Conway had two saves in the shutout. Lock Haven's Heather Ireland tallied five saves in the loss.
Adelphi now leads its all-time series against Lock Haven, 5-4-1.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday, September 15, hosting Mercy College in their first conference match-up of the season. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
