Southampton, N.Y. - The #8 ranked Adelphi University Panthers defeated #12 Southampton College Lady Colonials 5-1 to win their third straight NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Northeast Regional title. The Panthers advance to next weekend's match-up against New England Regional Champions Franklin Pierce.

Adelphi opened up the scoring in the 43rd minute when senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, NY) scored unassisted off a corner to give Adelphi a 1-0 lead at halftime. Adelphi broke the game wide open just seven minutes into the second half. Sophomore Lea Brady (Holbrook, NY) was set up by Coiro at 58:13 to give the Lady Panthers a two goal cushion. Adelphi didn't take long to add another goal when freshman Denise Auer (Holbrook, NY) scored just :29 seconds later. Auer then assisted sophomore Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, NY) at 59:14 and sophomore Lauren Bowman (Cheshire, CT) at 65:47 to finish the scoring for Adelphi. Southampton's lone goal was scored by sophomore Caroline Svensson (Skarplinge, Sweden) in the games 80th minute.

Adelphi's freshman goalie Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, NY) collected seven saves on the afternoon while Southampton's Corinne Morgan (Groton, NY) had four saves in the losing effort. Adelphi improves to 19-3 while Southampton falls to 17-2-3 and closes out it's most successful season and the final season of women's soccer at Southampton College.

New England Regional Champs Franklin Pierce (20-1) captured its ninth Regional title with a 5-2 win over Assumption College this afternoon. Next weekend will mark the third-straight meeting in the NCAA Quarterfinal for #4 ranked Franklin Pierce and Adelphi, as the Ravens won each of the last two years by identical 2-1 score lines.

A date, time and location for next weekend's quarterfinals will be announced by the NCAA on Monday.
