The #2 Adelphi University Panthers defeated the #3 Indiana University of Pennsylvania Lady Indians 2-0 in a NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Semifinal contest. Adelphi improves to 18-3 and advances to the Northeast Regional Final on Sunday while Indiana University of Pennsylvania finishes their season at 19-4.
The Panthers will face conference rival Southampton in the Regional final on Sunday at 12 noon.
Junior Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, NY) set up senior Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, NY) in the 20th minute of the game to put the Panthers up 1-0. Coiro struck again in the games 72nd minute off an assist from sophomore Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, NY).
Adelphi was in control of the game from start to finish out-shooting the Lady Indians 20-1. Panthers goalkeeper Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, NY) picked up the shutout victory on the afternoon without recording a save. IUP's goalie Sarah Daw (New Freedom, PA) suffered the loss while collecting five saves.
In the afternoon's second game, #1 Southampton College prevailed over #4 West Chester University, advancing 4-3 on a shootout. Junior Denise Domena (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the Lady Colonials with one goal and one assist. Tied 2-2 at the end of regulation Southampton's Morgan stopped the first try from West Chester, then each team traded goals. Sophomore Caroline Svensson (Skarplinge, Sweden) scored the Lady Colonials final chance to advance them to the Finals in dramatic fashion
Sunday's contest will be the third meeting between Adelphi and Southampton this season. The Lady Colonials shutout the Panthers 3-0 at Southampton during the regular season. Adelphi evened the score, topping Southampton 2-1 in overtime for the NYCAC Tournament Championship.
