Garden City, N.Y. -
Junior Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored in the 96th minute to lift the Adelphi University women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 10-3 on the season while the Raiders fall to 6-7-1.
Adelphi dominated play throughout, holding a 22-4 shot advantage over Shippensburg. The Panthers had several good attempts on goal during regulation, but all were stopped by Raiders goalkeeper Meredith Yakscoe-Markle (West Chester, PA) who had 11 saves in the game.
Adelphi picked up play in the second half, but were still unable to connect for a goal. Sophomore Lea Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) had four attempts on goal, including a shot in the 55th minute that ricocheted off the post.
For just the second time this season the Panthers found themselves in an overtime situation. At 95:24 McEntee raced towards the Shippensburg goal, beating out several defenders before chipping the ball over the head of Yakscoe-Markle into the lower right corner of the net. It was her fourth goal of the season.
The Panthers return to conference action on Tuesday, October 19, hosting NYIT at 2:00 pm.
