Box Score

Lock Haven, Pa. - The No. 8-ranked Lady Eagle soccer team (13-1-1) captured a big regional victory with today's 2-0 shutout over No. 7-ranked Adelphi University (10-1-2), handing the Panthers their first loss of the season. The two teams are currently in a tie for first place in the Northeast Region.

Two goals compliments of Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) gave The Haven the edge in an evenly played match, Lock Haven getting off eight shots and Adelphi serving up seven in addition to two corner kick opportunities for each. The Lady Eagles jumped out into the early lead with Rangi's first goal in the ninth minute. Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) passed the ball forward up to Rangi, who launched a long shot to the far post for the one-goal lead.

Adelphi threatened to even the score early in the second stanza, as Domonique Riccardo almost slid one by LHU's Heather Ireland (Sarnia, Ontario/Northern NCIVS). Ireland deflected the initial shot by Riccardo, but the ball landed just in front of her, and Riccardo got off another shot that hit the post and went out of bounds.

Back on the offensive, the Lady Eagles put the game away with another score by Rangi in the 64th minute of action. Rangi won the ball at midfield then worked her way back to the box. She forced the keeper out then won a one-on-one match-up, sending the ball left past Adelphi's Andrea Fasano to give LHU the 2-0 cushion.

Both keepers registered three saves on the game, Ireland picking up her 10th shutout. Adelphi's Fasano played all 90 minutes, allowing the two goals along with three saves.

Up next, Adelphi returns home to host Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, October 23. Kick off is at 3:30 p.m.
