Hardware was a six-time All-American while at Adelphi who competed in three National Championships and one Olympiad.
In 1972, Hardware helped Adelphi to one of its best showings at a NCAA Outdoor National Championships meet, with the team finishing seventh overall. He placed second in the 200-meter dash in a school record time of 20.5 seconds, just missing out on a national title by mere inches. However, he did capture a national title in 1972, as a member of the mile relay team.
Hardware competed at the summer Olympics in Munich Germany as a member of the Jamaican National Team. He advanced as far as the semi-finals, placing 16th overall.
Over the next two years, Hardware earned three more All-American honors, including two top-three finishes at the NCAA Championships. At the 1973 championships, he placed third in the 220-yard dash in 20.7.
In addition to this All-American honors, national title and numerous all-star awards, Hardware hold s the Adelphi school records in both the 100 yard dash and the 200 meter dash. He also helped Adelphi to a PENN Relays Championship of America title in the 4x200 meter relay in 1971.
Hardware suffered a tragic death in September of 1987. He is survived by his mother, Caslin Hardware, and younger brother, Michael.
