Nadine (Reid) Chase, a four-year starter on the women's basketball team at Adelphi University had several "firsts." She was the first woman to earn an athletic scholarship from her high school, and finished her career as the school's first female player to score 1,000 career points.

Nadine got her first taste of basketball at the age of 12 at the urging of a family friend. Then, the Bronx, New York native played for Lehman High School, where she was MVP in both track and basketball her junior and senior years. However the rigors of both would be too much and she decided to focus on basketball when she entered Adelphi.

During her freshman season of 1976-77, the Panthers (13-9) advanced to the New York State A.I.A.W. Championships, where they finished sixth overall.

In her sophomore year, Nadine helped the team to the New York State Basketball Tournament, where the No. 8 seed Panthers took down top-seeded St. John's University. That year, she was an Honorable Mention candidate for the Big Apple All-Stars.

The 6-0 forward-center averaged 16.3 points per game her junior year, compiling 930 points. In her final game of the season, she scored 31 of her career-high 35 points in the second half of a losing effort against Marist College.

Nadine was a co-captain of the team her senior year. It was December 22, 1979 vs. C.W. Post that Chase procured the milestone. She finished her career with 1,150 points, which still ranks 13th on Adelphi's career point list.

Nadine passed away on January 1, 2023 at the young age of 64. A link to her obituary can be found here.
