Louis Cosenza came to Adelphi as part of the class of 1968 and was a multiple sport athlete. A member of the bowling, soccer, squash, baseball and basketball team, Cosenza was an integral part of each as he was named captain of many of his trades as well as helping each to conference and tournament titles. He is perhaps best known for his achievements on the baseball diamond. The W.T. Clarke High School graduate, during his time on the freshman baseball squad, guided his team to the program’s first victory in three years. Once on the varsity baseball team, by his senior year he was an All-American candidate as he led the Panthers in virtually every hitting category. Capping off his baseball career was an NAIA Honorable Mention as well as a selection on the All-Knickerbocker Conference team. He was twice named Adelphi’s MVP for baseball as well as Outstanding Athlete of the Year.
There is also the Lou Cosenza Award that began in 1977 which commemorates Lou for his outstanding teaching and effect on children. His award goes to the outstanding graduating senior who has evidenced the most promise as a teacher.
