He has been a constant supporter of Adelphi intercollegiate teams through his presence at home and away games.
He helped to organize and has often been a member of the Adelphi’s Advisory Council, the Personnel Committee, the Committee on Instruction and the Academic Standards Committee. Additionally, he was the Director of the National Conference of Teachers of English and was formerly the Chairman of the College Council on English of the Middle Atlantic States.
Groves served with the US Army Ambulance Corps as an ambulance driver and was in Italy during WWI in June of 1918. From July 1945 to January 1946, he was a civilian instructor with the American Army at the University of Shrivenham, England, which was operated by the Army for American soldiers.
