Brian Tower made an immediate impact on the men’s lacrosse team during his four-year tenure at Adelphi. At the time of his induction, his name appeared in the all-time record books in three categories.
He began classes at Adelphi in the fall of 1997 and began his first of four years with the lacrosse team in the spring on 1998. It was during this season that the stickmen, under Head Coach Sandy Kapatos, won the program’s fourth NCAA Championship as they avenged an earlier season loss to C.W. Post and came out on top, 18-6.
Tower emerged during his sophomore year as a driving factor in the lacrosse team’s success as they posted a 10-3 record and again silenced C.W. Post, 11-8, to defend their National Championship. The same year, he was a Second Team All-Conference selection and a First-Team All-American honoree. Additionally, he led the team in scoring with 29 goals.
In 2000, although the team did not earn an NCAA Tournament bid, Tower still received recognition in the form of First Team All-American and First Team All-Conference honors.
His senior campaign proved to be yet another successful season. Tower helped the Panthers compile a 12-2 overall record and another trip to the NCAA Championship. He and his teammates beat Limestone, 14-10, to stake claim to their third National Crown in four years. He was named a Second Team All-Conference selection and earned a spot on the All-American Second Team. Additionally, he also participated in the prestigious North-South All-Star game that year, proudly representing Adelphi University. Tower had 10 goals and three assists to his name over four years in his NCAA appearances.
The Panther history books reflected Tower’s name on three occasions at the time of his induction. Under Division II Career Records, he ranked 10th in points with 152, sixth in goals with 106 and fifth in ground balls with 158.
Tower graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and went on to earn a master’s degree in sports management in 2004. In 2003, he donned a Philadelphia Wings jersey of National League Lacrosse and was with them for three years before playing out his final two professional seasons with the New York Titans.
Currently a physical education teacher in the Deer Park School District, Tower has taught at Deer Park High School since 2001. He was the head coach of the varsity lacrosse team for eight years and has been the head middle school football coach since 2005. In 2011, he was added to the coaching staff of the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology as an assistant.
Brian currently resides in Massapequa. New York.
