Mansfield, Mass. - Senior
Rebecca Fakas of the Adelphi University women's tennis team was named the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Vern Cox Women's Tennis Player of the Year, it was announced on Wednesday as the league office released its all-conference teams and major award winners.
Fakas, the first team all-conference selection at No. 1 singles, posted an 11-1 mark in NE10 play at the top of the lineup for the Panthers this season, guiding her squad to a 11-1 record in conference play and the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Championship. She also earned second team all-conference honors at No. 1 doubles.
All six members of the Adelphi women's tennis program earned at least one All-Conference honor, second to seven from regular season champion Stonehill. Joining her with a first team selection was
Samantha Perri, named for No.4 singles, as the junior earns her second straight first team honor at the position in singles, and third of her career. Perri,
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Nicole Kielan were double honorees in singles and doubles, with Kielan also earning All-Rookie status in her first season.
The Panthers will host the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday's first round match between SNHU and Merrimack.
