Garden City, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University softball team celebrated the spirit of the holiday season by renewing an annual partnership with Island Harvest to collect over 900 pounds of food at local supermarkets on Long Island.

A full gallery of the team's community service can be found in the link above.

The team split up amongst four locations for four hours on Saturday, Nov. 19 as part of Island Harvest's Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign. The team was stationed at Uncle Giuseppe's Italian Market in East Meadow, Key Food Marketplace in Garden City, Whole Foods in Jericho and Shop Rite in New Hyde Park.

"As soon as the holiday season came around we wanted to do something that will help others who are less fortunate on Long Island," said junior Brenna Martini, who helped organize the team's community service efforts. "Working with Island Harvest is something that we as a team have done before and have thoroughly enjoyed. Island Harvest is the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island, so we knew that raising money and collecting food for them would go a long way in helping those across the island.

"We collected over 900 pounds of food and when it was all together and the team saw what they had accomplished in only a few hours, it was an amazing feeling."
