Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, January 28 Adelphi University and the Department of Athletics will celebrate 70 years of men's lacrosse with a cocktail reception on campus in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom of the Ruth S. Harley University Center.
The cost of the event is $100/person and it will feature passed hors d'oeuvres, a light buffet and open bar as well as select speakers and a slide show of lacrosse pictures from Adelphi's archives. The event will also honor coaches Paul "Doc" Doherty, Kevin Sheehan, Sandy Kapatos and
Gordon Purdie.Â
There will be an event program and ads can be purchased in support of the event, the program, players and teams. There will also be Adelphi men's lacrosse branded gear available for purchase and a collection of media guides, gear, and memorabilia on display.Â
The Adelphi men's lacrosse program has won 497 games in the past 70 years and an NCAA Division II record seven National Championships. The Panthers have also earned an NCAA best 18 trips to the Division II Tournament, posting a record of 18-9 with five second place finishes and three third place showings, while making four appearances at the Division I level with a record of 2-4.Â
