Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi softball team held a 5k run on Thursday, November 17, with a purpose: to help raise awareness for pancreatic cancer. In support of one of their very own, the softball team wanted to hold this event in honor of a team member's father who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The afternoon consisted of numerous athletes gathering in front of the Center for Recreation and Sport to begin the supportive journey.
"We are so grateful for the support we received for our 5K. The Adelphi community, coaches, student-athletes, families, and friends reminded us how fortunate we are to be a part of something so special," said head coach Bree Nasti. "We felt strongly about supporting World Pancreatic Cancer Day because a member of our softball family is affected and what we do best is come together and show support for one another. We want to make sure everyone who showed up, ran, and supported knows how truly appreciative we are."
The 3.1 mile adventure looped around the outside of campus, and after miles of hard work, the men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, swimming & diving, field hockey, baseball, and women's basketball teams awaited at the finish as the softball team ran in together to end the event.
