Wantagh, N.Y. -- On Saturday, September 19, the Adelphi University women's basketball team headed out to Jones Beach to volunteer at the annual Long Island Brain Tumor Walk, hosted by the National Brain Tumor Society.

The team assisted in the registration process, which was held from 8 am before the walk at 9:30 am, before cheering on all the participants during the day until the walk ended at noon.

"It was a great day," said head coach Heather Jacobs. "It was both a privilege and inspiration to volunteer. To see the spirit and toughness in not only the survivors but the families was powerful."

The Long Island Brain Tumor Walk is an annual event to raise awareness and much-needed resources to fund critical brain tumor-specific programs to improve the lives of all those affected by brain tumors. Hosted by the National Brain Tumor Society, the Long Island Brain Tumor Walk offers individuals and teams a chance to honor and remember loved ones, connect with others interested in the brain tumor cause, and helps to educate the local community on the diverse needs of the brain tumor community. Overall, this year's walk raised over $170,000 and counting.
