Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Adelphi Athletics

#1 Women's Lacrosse Repeats as NE-10 Champions, Defeats #2 Le Moyne 14-5

Alexa Froccaro, Ryley Weber and Felicia Mills were named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts.

Garden City, N.Y. - In a game where they never trailed, the top-seeded Adelphi University women's lacrosse team captured the program's fifth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title over the second-seeded Le Moyne College Dolphins, 14-5 on Sunday afternoon on Motamed Field.

The Panthers (18-1) scored the first six goals of the contest en route to the victory and were helped out on the day by a game-high four goals by Alexa Froccaro. Rachel O'Brien chipped in three for Adelphi, while Emily Keesling, Felicia Mills and Danielle Jaycox all scored twice. Ryley Weber, the game's Most Outstanding Player who joined Froccaro and Mills on the All-Tournament team, won five draw controls and caused one turnover to anchor the defensive effort. Le Moyne (17-3) got three goals on the afternoon from Maggie Monnat, who joined teammate Kayla Szczesniak on the All-Tournament Team.

O'Brien's first goal of the day came courtesy of an unassisted shot just 1:11 into the game, and the Brown and Gold never looked back from there. The Panthers' six-goal scoring run over the first 15 minutes also featured scoring from Froccaro, Mills and Jaycox, while Froccaro and O'Brien went back-to-back to secure the 6-0 lead.

Le Moyne got on the board with 8:25 to play courtesy of Monnat's first goal of the day, before reigning NE-10 Player of the Year Erica Geremia got her name on the scoresheet to close the gap to 6-2 with 3:41 remaining. However, Froccaro's third goal of the half stalled the visitors' momentum, as she fired a pass from Rachel Aitkens into the back of the net to put Adelphi up 7-2 at halftime.

After getting fouled in the early minutes of the second half, Mills' second goal of the day put Adelphi up 8-2. Le Moyne continued to battle, and an unassisted score from Monnat at 11:36 pulled the visitors to within five, 10-5. However, that was the last time the Dolphins scored as Jaycox, Keesling, Froccaro and Michele Scannell all scored in the final 10 mintues to secure the title for the Panthers, 14-5.

Froccaro, Mills, Weber, Monnat and Szczesniak were all rewarded for their play with a spot on the All-Tournament team, and they were joined there by Ashley Armstrong of Stonehill and Alyssa Gianotti of New Haven.

The top-ranked Panthers now await their fate in the NCAA Selection Show, which will air live on ncaa.com tonight at 8 p.m. The Panthers will host a first-round North Region game next Saturday, May 9, at a time to be determined.
