Garden City, N.Y. – Representing as the top-seed and the host institution, the Adelphi University volleyball team protected home court with a 3-0 win against Post University in the East Region Quarterfinal of the NCAA Tournament this evening.
During the victory, two school records were tied for the Brown and Gold. The squad's 27
th victory ties a single-season program record while 12 kills from
Mandy Stanislovaitis tied the single-season kill record of 452 set by Libby Torma in 1999. The win mark of 27 matches has been established four times previously in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011.
Stanilsovaitis led the team in kills to go along with four digs while
Megan Manierski was able to spread out 35 assists.
Bailey Riedel and
McKenna Clawson each swung for eight kills while Clawson added nine digs.
Sierra Crook led the defense with 26 digs.
A balanced attack in the first set helped the Panthers take a 25-16 victory behind
Bailey Riedel notching four kills while
Megan Manierski paced the offense with 14 assists and
Sierra Crook came away with nine digs. A 9-2 run from the Brown and Gold helped open the margin to 23-12 after a kill from
Stephanie Sokolich on the way to the opening game win.
After trailing for a majority of the early stages of the second set, the Panthers rallied to take a 14-13 lead after a block from
Madison Canestrari and Manierski. Retaking the lead for good at 15-14, Adelphi closed out the second game victory on an 11-4 run with Manierski putting the final touches on the win with a kill.
Mandy Stanislovaitis led the offense with four kills while Crook added eight digs.
Stanislovaitis notched five of her kills in the deciding third set to help Adelphi earn a 25-16 win as well as a 3-0 sweep in the match. Crook also continued her solid play from the back row with an additional nine digs while the attack swung for a .387 percentage.
The Brown and Gold move on to the East Regional Semifinal round tomorrow at 7:30 pm to face the winner of tonight's 7:30 pm match between NYIT and LIU Post.
Earlier today, the higher seeds in the afternoon session each earned 3-0 sweeps as the second seeded Purple Knights of Bridgeport and third seeded Dowling moved on to tomorrow's 5:00 pm East Regional Semifinal match with defeats of New Haven and Franklin Pierce, respectively.
