Mattingly Highlights Another Succesful Fall Cocktail Reception Presented By MetLife Legacy Advisors

Carle Place, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual Fall Cocktail Reception presented by MetLife's Legacy Advisors on Wednesday, November 11, at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, N.Y. Don Mattingly, current Florida Marlins Manager of Major League Baseball and former New York Yankee great, took pictures and chatted with "Talking Baseball''s" Ed Randall in front of a crowd of nearly 400 people during the eventful evening that raised over $40,000 for Adelphi University athletics.

"This year's cocktail party proved once again to be an outstanding event," remarked Danny McCabe, Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation. "The support that the community, alumni and friends showed for our student-athletes and the Panther Club was tremendous.  We are truly grateful for the unbelievable support from so many who are committed to enhancing the student-athlete experience." 

The evening began with cocktails and a buffet catered by the Chateau Briand, and segued into a photo event in which Mattingly greeted and took pictures with ecstatic guests.

Dom Scala, head coach of the Adelphi baseball team and former bullpen coach for the New York Yankees, emceed the event and welcomed everyone with his opening speech. Scala, also introduced Randall, Adelphi University President, Dr. Christine M. Riordan as well as McCabe. 
 
Randall, a world renowned baseball media personality and host of Ed Randall's Talking Baseball radio show on WFAN, interviewed Mattingly about his current situation with the Marlins, his former position with the Dodgers, and his playing days with the Yankees.
 
The night finished with a raffle and silent auction winners collecting their memorabilia, which featured autographed baseballs, jerseys, cleats, pictures, bats and other items that were signed by prominent players such as David Wright, Daniel Murphy, and Goose Gossage. All the proceeds of which were donated to Adelphi Athletics for the benefit of the student-athletes.

"I am extremely pleased with outcome of this year's event featuring Don Mattingly," said Scala. "The positive response from the Adelphi community & the participants was extraordinary. I would like to thank Don Mattingly, Ed Randall & the entire Adelphi staff who helped to make this another successful and memorable night."
