Garden City, N.Y. - Following a perfect 22-0 season that was capped off by a NCAA Division II National Championship, Adelphi University women's lacrosse head coach Rob Grella has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Coach of the Year.
Grella, just completing his third year at the helm of the Panthers, guided the Brown and Gold to a sixth national title in program history and the first since the third of three in a row in 2011. The team was also crown the Northeast-10 Conference Champions for the fourth time in program history.
Adelphi this season finished second in the nation in scoring (17.32 goals per-game) and first in goals allowed per-game (4.55) on the way to a perfect season. The 12.77 scoring margin was also first in the country.
Grella was a two-time First-Team All-American for the Panthers durig his playing days, helping the team to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II National Final. He was also named the NCAA Division II Attackman and Player of the Year in 1996 and played in the Division I USILA North/South All-Star game in 1997.
