Garden City, NY - The Adelphi University softball team played host to the Challenger League, which is a special part of the East Meadow Baseball/Softball Association this past Sunday. This league provides a baseball environment to individuals with special needs. The Challenger program affords these children the opportunity to play ball and experience exciting, friendly and fun competition.
"Playing against the East Meadow Challengers was an inspiring experience for our team," said senior infielder
Victoria Wink. "Seeing their team members playing the game with such passion brought us together in playing this game we all love."
The league is run entirely by volunteers and always welcomes community participation. Frank Simeone, a member of the grounds crew at Adelphi University has two sons that are active members of the team.
"Competing against the East Meadow Challengers was an incredible experience. Sharing a field with a group of men who play because of a genuine passion for our sport and a desire to compete is a great reminder of why we do what we do," said Head Coach Bree Nasti. "Their spirit, enthusiasm, and humor was beyond enjoyable and we are looking forward to doing this with them again."
