Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University held its annual Athletic Awards Dinner on Sunday, May 12, and recognized dozens of athletes for their outstanding achievements. Most Valuable Player awards were given to a member of 23 varsity squads, while a handful of Memorial awards and major athletic acheivement awards were presented to Adelphi's most accomplished student-athletes.
Seniors
Emily Dorko (volleyball/softball) and Dillon McNamara (baseball) were named Adelphi's Outstanding Athletes of the Year for their record-breaking seasons.
Dorko helped lead the Adelphi volleyball team to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship title match and the NCAA East Region Semifinals before spearheading the softball team's run to its first-ever NE-10 Regular Season and Championship crowns. Dorko was named to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team while setting program records in hits and stolen bases.
McNamara pitched his way on to the NE-10 All-Conference First Team as the Adelphi closer and set a pair of program records in the process. He led the NE-10 in saves with 13, posted a microscopic 0.30 earned run average and threw 29.2 innings of relief before allowing an earned run. Adelphi's closer set the program's single-season and career saves record en route to striking out 42 batters in 30 innings.
