Support Cans for Cancer This Saturday; Get A Free Lunch

April 30, 2010

Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, May 1, beginning at 3:00 p.m., the Adelphi University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in partnership with the Cans for Cancer program, will host its 2nd annual bottle drive at Competition Field. The first 50 people for each game to bring a bag of empty recyclable bottles and/or cans will receive a complimentary lunch.

The event is open to all Adelphi fans, students, parents, alumni and supporters. The redeemable items, which also include water bottles, will be collected at the entrance to Competition Field. Special raffle prizes, courtesy of Moe's Southwest Grill, will be available.

The #1-ranked Panthers (14-0) will host the Pioneers of #2 C.W. Post (14-1) at 4:00 p.m. followed by Men's Lacrosse vs. Bentley College at 7:00pm.

All of the proceeds from the recyclable cans will be donated to the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital through the Adelphi University Cans for Cancer Program. Recently, Adelphi University Athletics has partnered with local CVS stores that will have a recycle bin (similar to the bins on campus) to support the Cans for Cancer program. The proceeds will also benefit Winthrop University Hospital. This venture has also been supported by the Pepsi Bottling Ventures.

The Cans for Cancer Program was initiated on Adelphi campus several years ago, and remains one of the athletic department's most successful community outreach programs. During that time, Adelphi has donated over $30,000 to Winthrop University Hospital's Cancer Center for Kids.
