Over 300 spectators overcame the cool weather and attended a youth clinic and a spring scrimmage that featured the Adelphi men's soccer team and the Hofstra men's soccer team on Saturday, April 10th at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa, New York.

The event was hosted by the Massapequa Soccer Club as approximately 60 youngsters from the Massapequa Soccer Club, participated in a youth clinic that was conducted by players and coaches of both Hofstra and Adelphi. All proceeds from this charity event benefited the Long Island FSHD, a non-profit organization supporting scientific research of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy.

The athletes and coaches set-up different stations throughout the field such a heading station, a passing station, and a shooting stations. After the clinic was completed, the teams signed autographs for the kids.

"The event was made possible by members of the Massapequa Soccer Club, and the coaches and players of both the Adelphi men's soccer team and the Hofstra men's soccer team agreeing to the play in this charity event", said Jennifer Valentine, director of the Long Island FHSD Foundation.

"We were thrilled that both the Massapequa Soccer Club and the Long Island FSHD Foundation contacted us to participate in tonight's charity event," said Adelphi men's soccer head coach Carlo Acquista. "We were battle tested throughout the night as Hofstra is a well coached and organized team as we were fortunate to come out on top. This was building block for us as we better prepare and progress for the upcoming 2010 soccer season."

The Long Island FHSD Foundation is located in Massapequa Park, New York and is the only organization in the New York area, and only one of three in the nation, specifically focused on FSHD.
