A rain soaked day did not damper the spirits of the Adelphi Softball team and 61 participants of the At Bat For A Clause Clinic held last Sunday October 18, in the Center for Recreation & Sports.

The clinic, which took place from 9:00am-12:30pm, covered all areas of the game: throwing, fielding, base-running, hitting and bunting. For the most part, the players ran individual stations and taught the skills without the help of the coaching staff.

"The kids worked hard and it was rewarding to give back to the community," said junior catcher Deandra Leo.

The drills were focused on improving the fundamentals of the game and always worked into some sort of competition. The main purpose of the clinic was to demonstrate softball as a lifetime sport in order to increase the overall health and confidence of the young ladies.

"First off, I want to state that the clinic was truly one of the better clinics that I have had my daughter attend. Not only did you keep it simple you also concentrated on fundamentals before performance all within just over 3 hours," said parent Kenneth Partyka.

Not only was the clinic set up to help with the wellness of its participants, but it also helped to raise $1,025 for the Athletic Department's Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives.

During the month of October, the fall sports teams hosted "Pink" games and the department sold t-shirts and other raffle items to raise money for the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. It was Head Coach Paige Smith who decided to set up the clinic to support the fund-raising efforts.

"The response from the community has been overwhelmingly great. The energy in the gym was contagious and it was fun to be a part of a successful event which benefiting a great cause."
