Garden City, N.Y. -
On Friday, March 28, 2008 several student-athletes visited Winthrop University Hospital to play with the children currently diagnosed with cancer. The athletes brought three dozen black panther stuffed animals to give out to the patients at the hospital.
Currently, Winthrop sees about 100 children per year that are diagnosed with various forms of cancer. The athletes were able to take a tour of the facility, see the machinery that is helping to save lives, and interact with the children on site.
In addition, the athletes were able to see where the Cans for Cancer money has gone in the past, and the places to which director Linda Sweeney would like to see it go in the future.
