Adelphi Presents Check To Winthrop University Hospital

Feb. 21, 2008

Garden City, N.Y. -

On Monday February 11, members of the Adelphi University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) and CHAMPS/Life Skills Program met with Linda Sweeney and other representatives from Winthrop University Hospital to present a check from last year's Cans for Cancer Program collection.

During the 2006-07 season student-athletes and their respective teams, emptied and sorted bins located around campus. In total, Adelphi collected $7,469 to donate to Winthrop University Hospital from the Cans for Cancer Program.

The Cans for Cancer Program was initiated on Adelphi's campus several years ago, and remains one of the athletic department's most successful community outreach program. The Panthers' campus involvement is currently undergoing a renovation process and includes newly designed collection bins to be placed around campus. In addition Cans for Cancer will launch an informational program designed to educate the student body about the program and the initiatives that the Adelphi University Athletic Department is trying to achieve.
