On Monday December 8, 2009 members of the Adelphi University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) and CHAMPS/Life Skills Program met with Linda Sweeney and other representatives from Winthrop University Hospital's Cancer Center for Kids to present a check from last year's Cans for Cancer Program collection.

During the 2007-08 season, student-athletes and their respective teams, emptied and sorted bins located around campus. A check for $8,295 was presented to Winthrop University Hospital from the Adelphi University Cans for Cancer Program.

Also, on the visit Adelphi University donated toys and games to the brand new Cancer Center for Kids for the holidays. Student -Athletes assisted with the decoration of the Christmas tree and the lobby of their new center for the holidays.

The Cans for Cancer Program was initiated on Adelphi campus several years ago, and remains one of the athletic department's most successful community outreach program. This past year the program was revamped with brand new recycle bins and recently began accepting water bottles.

Thank you to everyone on campus for helping us surpass our goal each year.
