On Sunday December 16th, the Adelphi University CHAMPS/Life Skills program sponsored an event at the Salvation Army in Hempstead. Student-athlete volunteers spent several hours working to set up for the Salvation Army's Annual Toy Workshop. Members of the women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's tennis, cross country, and golf teams helped count toys and organize thousands of gifts by age, group and gender.

Volunteers assist with set up for the Toy Workshop which is expected to host 400 families who will visit the Salvation Army before Christmas. Over the course of two days, each parent is able to go to pick out three gifts for their children and two stocking stuffers.

The Salvation Army has run the Toy Workshop for more than 30 years. This year, over 1,500 children in the Hempstead area will receive some help during this holiday season thanks to donations of area residents. In all they hope to distribute 20,000 gifts to families in need and those who are unable to provide holiday gifts to their children.
