Garden City, N.Y. -
On Tuesday December 19th the Adelphi University CHAMPS/Life Skills program sponsored an event at the Salvation Army in Hempstead. Student-athlete volunteers spent several hours working to set up for the Salvation Army's Annual Toy Workshop. The women's soccer and volleyball teams helped count toys and organize thousands of gifts by age group and gender.
Volunteers assist with set up for the Toy Workshop which is expected to host 380 families who will visit the Salvation Army on December 20 and 21. Over the course of two days, each parent is able to go to pick out three gifts for their children and two stocking stuffers.
The Salvation Army has run the Toy Workshop for more than 30 years. This year, over 1,000 children in the Hempstead area will receive some help during this holiday season thanks to donations of area residents. In all, 20,000 gifts will be distributed to families in need and are unable to provide holiday gifts to their children.
