Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) in conjunction with the Adelphi Dance Team and the Peer Educators joined together in raising over $500.00 for the Long Island Association for AIDS Care. The money, collected through donations for a quilt, will be used to purchase sporting equipment and toys for children of families living with HIV and AIDS.
The groups solicited individuals, athletic teams, local businesses and other organizations to donate $10.00 for the opportunity to decorate the quilt. The donations provided each sponsor with an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of felt for which they were responsible for decorating. The pieces were sewn together by SAAC memeber and Adelphi women's soccer player, Lena Dunning.
The quilt was unveiled on December 1 in honor of World AIDS Day and remained on display in the University Center from December 1-8
The quilt was moved to Woodruff Hall where it will find a permanent home in the gymnasium.
